Çalık studied drawing at the workshop of Abidin Elderoğlu between 1932 and 1939. By 1939, he was studying under Rudolf Belling at the Department of Sculpture in İstanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. A simple composition and balance began to dominate his works. In the early 1950s, he spent some time in Paris and simultaneously worked on the Neo-classical figurative and abstract works. He served as faculty member at the State Academy’s Department of Sculpture. With the pattern series and terracotta reliefs he created in the 1960s, he veered from figurative nature interpretations to abstractionism. Çalık passed away on 24 December 1979.
