Berg was born in Portland- Oregon. In 1971, he received his B.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle. He studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture for a year in 1972. Berg moved to İstanbul in 1999. He continues to teach art at Koç University.
